Satoshi Nakamoto’s Last Email

Satoshi's last email was to Mike Hear, BitcoinJ developer about permanently stepping away from Bitcoin.

Satoshi Nakamoto sent his last email to Mike Hearn on April 23, 2011, stating that he had moved on to other things and the project, i.e., Bitcoin, was in good hands, referring to Gavin Andresen, Hal Finney, Mike himself, and other core contributors.

The Email

Satoshi (email ID: satoshin@gmx.com) sent his last publicly known email to developer Mike Hearn (email ID: mike@plan99.net) on April 23, 2011, at 3:40 PM (probably Pacific Time). The first sentence of the email is publicly known; however, most publishers and news platforms omit the second part about the BitcoinJ client.

The email was a reply to Mike asking whether Satoshi would be available for code reviews later or if he would be permanently stepping away from the limelight.

Satoshi praised Mike for his BitcoinJ client, a Java-based software designed to run the Bitcoin network. Satoshi said it would make a good alternative client for those who want a faster alternative to the existing one. He said this in a rather funny way, suitable for impatient new users who will start using it while the older client is still downloading the Blockchain.

Satoshi also posted a forum post on Bitcointalk a few days later, on April 26, 2011, saying that he had moved on to other projects and the project was in good hands with Gavin and others. The exact email is shown in the image above.
